Zedekiah's Cave
Zedekiah’s Caves (aka Solomon’s Quarries) was a fun little place to visit. When I went there were hardly any people, probably because it isn’t one of the more popular places, just sort of an on-the-side adventure. Apparently freemasons used to have meetings here and still do. I imagine it is significant to them because some believe that the stones quarried here were used to help build both Solomon’s and Herod’s temple and/or the walls surrounding it. The cool thing about the cave is that it all lies underneath the Old City (kind of scary!). Most of the cave was actually carved out (quarried) by laborers over the thousands of years it has existed but they don’t know for sure when this work began.
