Ecce Homo & Antonia Fortress
According to Christian tradition Jesus was judged by Pontius Pilate at the Antonia Fortress, which was built by Herod. When walking along the Via Dolorosa one will notice a portion of an archway over the road. This is called the Ecce Homo Arch (Latin for “Behold the Man” – John 19), which is part of the Antonia Fortress. It is neat to explore within the fortress. It is pretty huge and filled with a lot of interesting artifacts and architecture such as the Strutheon, a cistern, a water system, Roman games carved into the stone floors, pottery, cannon balls, the Lithostrotos, etc.
