Temple Mount
You have to go through security to get into the Temple Mount and it’s only open to tourists during certain times. Inside it is incredibly beautiful and open. Of course, the two main structures to see are the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque.
The temple mount was a very significant place both in Old and New Testament times. Many believe it was here that Abraham came to Mt. Moriah to sacrifice Isaac (Gen 22). It is where King Solomon built the First Temple (1 Chronicles 28), where Zerubabbel built the first version of the Second Temple (Ezra 3-6), where Herod’s Temple was built taking 46 years to complete (John 2:20), and where Jesus taught (Luke 2; John 8:20), scourged the money changers (John 2), and prophesied. (Matt 24). It is prophesied that one day the Lord will return here during His second coming (Matt 23:39). Click here for a basic description of Herod's temple mount in the LDS Bible Dictionary.
