Welcome to the Holy Land!
Journal Entry: August 4, 2009
“I’m finally here!! The flight out here wasn’t too bad – 10 hours long. Sat next to Catherine and Jeffrey on the plane. Jeff taught me a little Hebrew: “Mi” is “who,” “hu” is “he,” “he” is “she.” Good luck learning Hebrew Brandon! It was neat to see all the Orthodox Jews on the plane with their hats, suits, and curls. It was cool seeing them pray on the plane too. We landed in Tel Aviv where our group was picked up by the schools “madrichim” (guides). The bus took about an hour to get to campus and when we entered Jerusalem I could see the big golden “Dome of the Rock” within the walls of the Old City. That was the first thing I saw that indicated to me I was finally in Jerusalem. When we arrived on campus they gave me my keys and I moved into my dorm room on the fifth floor of Building 5 where I took a shower and slept for 3 hours until orientation and campus tour…
…I just still can’t believe I’m here in the Holy Land. It’s amazing in it’s own way. The buildings are nothing like those at home. It’s fun to see. Later this week I’ll be going on a tour of the Old City – I can’t wait! Tomorrow my summer ulpan language classes begin at 19 so I better get some shut eye.”
