Journal Entry: August 3, 2009
"Drove to New York yesterday with Brian and Hilary. We watched the Broadway musical "Wicked" and it was amazing! I've never seen anything like it before. After hanging out in Manhattan for a bit we went to the hotel near JFK airport where I realized my flight was leaving from "Newark" airport, not "New York" airport. I felt so dumb! Because our plans were JFK and Brian had to pick up visiting family members from JFK around the same time as my flight early in the morning, I had to be dropped off that night and spend the night in the Newark airport where I attempted to sleep on the hard floor with all the lights on and a constant announcement. I only managed to do so for about four hours. Woke up at 5:30 and have been hanging out since. What an awesome way to start out my adventure to the Holy Land! Right now my group for the flight has to meet in just two hours. I'm feeling nervous. It hit me last night as I was laying on the floor that I'm going to be spending the next five months in Jerusalem and not knowing a soul out there! I hope I can quickly find my nitch. Although nervous, I feel excited too. There are a lot of Jews walking around here, more than I've ever seen in my life. I'm already starting to feel like I'm in the Holy Land."
