Jerusalem - Beyond the Walls of the Old City
Jerusalem actually extends far beyond the walls of the Old City. According to one source it is about 48.3 square miles (the Old City is only .35 sq mi). Needles to say, there is still so much to see and do beyond the Old City walls. I had the opportunity to do just that from going to the zoo to walking through caves, and of course visiting more sites from ancient scripture such as Ein Karem, the birth place of John the Baptist. If my transportation wasn't on foot, it usually was by bus. There are two bus systems - the Arab buses and the Jewish buses. Although advised by the University to not take the Arab buses, I often found it more useful and cheaper to get around. When I first started traveling by bus on either bus it was difficult because of the different languages spoken. I really had to be attentive to my surroundings because I often could not understand the names of the stops. It wasn't too bad though as long as I made it home alive. :)
