Mount Zion
This was one of the first places I went during our introduction tour of Jerusalem. Today Mount Zion is right outside the main walls of the Old City but was within the walls during bible times. Located on Mount Zion is a German Church called the Dormition Abbey. It is also said by some that this is the location where Jesus ate the Last Supper and we actually visited the room where they believe it took place. Wether it was the exact location or not is not a huge deal to me. I soon came to realize that in the Holy Land there are often multiple sites that claim the same event took place there. That being said, simply being there still helped me to gain a better perspective and understanding of the stories told about Jesus. Just being there, contemplating the Last Supper, visualizing the events in my mind as I looked at my location and surroundings, opened up my heart and allowed the Spirit to teach me. I often found myself visiting these sites on my own, finding a quiet spot, and reading the scriptures that pertain to the location. What an amazing way to learn!
