The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Rothberg International School)
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, located on Mount Scopus and just northeast of the Old City, is where I had the chance to study for the six months I stayed there. Within the university is the Rothberg International School which is where I was able to enroll. My classmates came from all over the globe and consisted of Christians, Jews, and Muslims. I enjoyed the classes I took - Hebrew, Early Christianity, from Jewish Jesus to Christianity, and Historical Geography of Jerusalem. Each of my teachers were very friendly and knowledgable. Entering the campus itself was interesting - we had to go through metal detectors, show I.D., and have our bags checked everytime we entered. Below are pictures and videos of the school itself and the views from campus.
Trapped In the LibraryOctober 13, 2009
“Went to the school library today to put some pictures online to send to my family and also to watch general conference online, and got locked in the library! I was watching the Saturday morning session and was just finishing up President Uchtdorf’s talk when all of a sudden the lights were turned off and it was almost pitch black. I took off my earphones and heard not a single sound of human existence! I hurried and put my stuff in my bag using the light from my phone and did my best to find the door that led to go downstairs. I finally found it and it was locked! I went around and found another door and made it down stairs. With all the lights off I couldn’t recognize and became disoriented. I went down to the first floor went out the doors and didn’t recognize anything. I then went to the second floor and the same thing (I started out on the 4th floor)! It was so strange and I got a little panicky feeling and said a prayer. At the same time I looked at the big picture and started laughing at my pathetic and awkward situation and began to think I might actually have to spend the night in the library. I went to the 3rd floor and realized that was where the exit was but the doors in the stairway were locked and the main exit was about 50 meters away. I could see a person once and a while walking in the hallway but no matter how much I banged the door and yelled they couldn’t hear me. It was really funny. How the heck was I the only one in the library? I didn’t hear the closing announcement because I was listening to conference and I was in the back corner of the quiet floor and it was only 7:00 pm! What kind of school library closes at 7pm? It was hilarious. After a good half an hour or more of stumbling in the dark, being all disoriented on which floor was the main exit, and trying to get someone’s attention. I remembered the little red card in my wallet with important numbers on it so I called security who sent someone to get me out 20 minutes later. It was hilarious.” |
